Different Perspectives Training
Our Different Perspectives Training has been developed by mothers and fatherswho have been involved in the child protection process. Working with a qualified social worker the parents have drawn from their first-hand experience of the child protection process to produce an interesting training package for trainee and qualified child care professionals.

The training which is delivered by the parents together with a qualified social worker from Families in Care Is essential for social work students, professionals and support teams working with mothers involved in the child protection process.

Mindfulness Stress Reduction Sessions

Trained to teach Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and currently completing an MSc in Mindfulness the CEO has been running a pilot project with Tyneside Women’s Health offering introductory sessions of mindfulness based stress reduction for women who attend both Tyneside Women’s Health and Families in Care. The sessions provide an introduction to the principles and aims of mindfulness, guided instruction with an opportunity to experience mindfulness practice as well as assistance for home practice. Given the very positive feedback the weekly sessions will continue to be offered to women from both projects without charge.
In an effort to raise funds for Families in Care however the CEO will be offering Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction sessions to outside organisations at a reasonable cost.

Families in Care at Durham University

Families in Care at Durham University project has been running now for three years. We are in the process of recruiting new family law students and are confident that our fourth year will be even more successful than previous ones.
Given the lack of specialist advocacy support for parents attending child protection meetings this initiative aims to train family law students to act as volunteer advocates; working alongside professionally qualified staff they will provide the highest standard of advocacy service for Families in Care during their second and third year of university study.
